About

I’m Jonathan White. I operate production infrastructure across a dedicated, highly regulated AWS region, supporting 180+ services and roughly 3,000 hosts. My focus is service provisioning, CI/CD pipeline health, incident response, and hardware lifecycle management, and I build most of the automation myself in Python, Bash, AWS CDK, and CloudFormation.

Before AWS I spent seven years as a Communications & Information Systems Specialist in the Royal Navy, running mission-critical networked systems and mixed Windows/Linux estates in demanding operational environments. I hold an active AWS Certified SysOps Administrator certification.

Outside of work this site is where I write things down, and my home lab (a Raspberry Pi cluster and a Synology NAS) is where I do most of my hands-on tinkering with monitoring, virtualisation, containerisation, and Infrastructure as Code. More on that under Projects.

  • Aug 2023 - PresentAmazon Web Services

    AWS Infrastructure & Platform Engineer

    • Designed and built a Python CI/CD pipeline health tool from scratch that cut analysis from hours to about 2 seconds, remediating 53 stale pipelines at a sustained 96% deployment success rate across 100+ monitored pipelines.
    • Led a regional credential rotation campaign covering 490 secrets across 180+ services and 4 credential types to a hard compliance deadline with zero service outages, coordinating a team of 12.
    • Independently built and deployed 5 critical cloud services end to end (97 code reviews across one programme), resolving multi-layer failures spanning ACM, IAM, API Gateway, Route53, and CDK/CloudFormation.
    • Operate and deploy 180+ services across roughly 3,000 hosts in a dedicated, highly regulated AWS region, including hardware lifecycle management and 24/7 on-call rotations for critical infrastructure.

    Communications & Information Systems Specialist

    • Operated and maintained mission-critical communications and IT infrastructure, including secure networked systems and the ALIS support platform for the F-35, in high-availability operational environments.
    • Administered mixed Windows Server and RHEL/Linux estates, performing version upgrades and system migrations under tight constraints with limited external support.
    • Ran a high-volume IT service desk and led teams and shifts during critical operations, including technical training for junior staff.
